Embracing the Summer: Hiking, Pickleball, and a Return to Meditation

Summer has a unique way of lighting a fire under our feet, doesn't it? There's something about the longer days, the warmer weather, and the sheer vibrancy of everything around us that just screams, "Get outside and do something!" For me, this summer has been all about embracing that call to action and rediscovering some passions that had been tucked away during the colder months.

First on the list: hiking. There's nothing quite like hitting the trails early in the morning when the air is still crisp, and the world is waking up. The birds are singing, the trees are swaying gently in the breeze, and each step feels like a small adventure. I’ve found myself gravitating towards trails I’ve never explored before, each one offering its own unique slice of nature. From rugged paths with rocky climbs to serene walks through lush forests, every hike has been a reminder of the beauty that’s right in our backyard. Plus, there's a certain satisfaction in reaching the summit and taking in a view that feels like it was made just for you.

Then, there's pickleball. Oh, how I’ve missed the fast-paced fun of this sport! If you haven’t tried pickleball yet, you’re missing out. Imagine the best parts of tennis and ping-pong combined into one exhilarating game. This summer, I dusted off my paddle and got back on the court. The thrill of a well-placed shot, the laughter that inevitably comes with a good rally, and the friendly competition—it’s been the perfect way to stay active and socialize at the same time. I’ve even started to get a little competitive again, but in the best way possible. It’s all about the joy of the game and the camaraderie that comes with it.

But beyond the physical activity, there's been a deeper, more peaceful reconnection happening. Nature has a way of grounding us, of reminding us of the simple pleasures in life. Whether it’s the scent of pine trees on a hike or the rhythmic bounce of a pickleball, these moments have helped me feel more present and alive.

And speaking of presence, let’s talk about meditation. It’s funny how we can let go of the practices that benefit us the most. I used to be diligent with my meditation, but somewhere along the way, life got busy, and I fell out of the habit. This summer, though, something shifted. Maybe it’s the brighter days, both literally and figuratively, but I found myself drawn back to my meditation cushion. Reengaging with meditation has been like rediscovering an old friend. The quiet moments of stillness, the focus on breath, the letting go of daily stresses—it’s been transformative. Each session feels like a little slice of serenity in an otherwise hectic world.

So here I am, diving into summer with a renewed zest for life. Hiking, pickleball, and meditation have combined to create brighter days filled with activity, joy, and peace. This season has been a powerful reminder that sometimes, all we need to do is step outside, take a deep breath, and let the world inspire us. Here’s to more adventures, more laughter, and more moments of mindfulness. Summer, you’ve been a game-changer.
